Four little words, “I think I’m pregnant,” and your world turns upside down. What should you do? We’ve got some answers.
Some Do’s and Don’ts if Your Partner Announces She’s Pregnant
Right about now, you may be in full-on panic mode. We understand. Fatherhood was not what you wanted at this time. You may be wondering:
- “Is she really pregnant?”
- “Am I the father?”
- “Do I have to pay something?”
- “What do I do?”
We’re here to answer some of your questions. We don’t just care about her. You matter to us, too.
Here are a few of the Do’s:
- Do bring her to The Pregnancy Resource Center for a free and confidential pregnancy test.
- Do meet with a client advocate to learn about all your options.
- Do keep the lines of communication open. It takes two to get pregnant. You’re in this together.
- Do listen to her fears, concerns, and suggestions.
- Do share your fears, concerns, and suggestions.
Some of the Don’ts:
- Don’t say, “Do whatever you want. I don’t care.” No one should have to make this decision alone.
- Don’t shut her down.
- Don’t intimidate or manipulate her to make one decision over another.
- Don’t walk away from your responsibility.
- Don’t avoid the hard conversations.
Ultimately, how she decides to handle the pregnancy is up to her. She will make the final choice.
